Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman dead at 46

NEW YORK -- Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead Sunday afternoon in his New York City apartment of an apparent drug overdose, according to multiple newspaper reports.

The prolific actor became a recognizable face on the big screen with a slew of iconic character rolls in films like Boogie Nights, the Big Lebowski and Almost Famous. Eventually Hoffman garnered more starring rolls, leading to the 2005 Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of the title character in "Capote."

Hoffman was also nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Lancaster Dodd in the 2012 film "The Master."
