Legislation moves forward to legalize industrial hemp

 

Legislation is moving forward to legalize industrial hemp farms at the federal level.

 

U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley announced Wednesday that their bipartisan legislation to legalize hemp as part of the farm bill has passed the senate agriculture committee.

 

That means they’re one step closer to removing the plant from the list of controlled substances, so all american farmers can grow it.......

Oregon Senators Hail Hemp Legalization in U.S. Farm Bill

Senators Wyden and Merkley have been working with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to introduce a bill that would legalize hemp farming throughout the nation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Wording that would legalize hemp farming at a federal level will be part of the new Senate Farm Bill, according to U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley. The Farm Bill passed the Senate Agriculture Committee today.

 

“Our bipartisan legislation will help farmers unlock the full economic potential of industrial hemp, spurring economic growth and creating good-paying red, white, and blue jobs in rural communities across the country. Passing the Hemp Farming Act through the Senate Agriculture Committee marks a huge step toward allowing consumers to buy products made with hemp grown in America,” said Wyden....

Sen. Mitch McConnell Pushes Hemp Legalization in Farm Bill

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Declaring he has “won the argument” on hemp, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that the Senate is on track for a vote to legalize the crop that comes from the same plant that produces marijuana.

 

The Senate Agriculture Committee is scheduled to consider the farm bill Wednesday. It will include a provision to remove hemp from a list of Schedule I controlled substances, making it legal for farmers to grow and sell the crop. Although far from becoming law, the step is noted progress for an idea that has faced staunch opposition among conservative lawmakers....

The leader of the United States Senate continues to push hemp legislation forward.

 

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Friday, June 8, 2018, that he has successfully inserted legislation into the Senate’s 2018 Farm Bill, which would legalize hemp as an agricultural commodity.

 

“Securing the Hemp Farming Act as part of the 2018 Farm Bill has been a top priority of mine. … I look forward to continuing to work with my Senate colleagues on this and many other issues important to Kentucky agriculture as we move towards consideration of the Farm Bill,”  McConnell explained in a Friday press release......
