Genetically Modified Apples Newest Gmo Creation To Be Pushed On Consumers

Genetically Modified Apples Newest GMO Creation to be Pushed on Consumers       After setting sights on creating a heavily modified apple that ‘never browns’ and doing their very best to hide the fact that they are indeed genetically altered, a biotech corporation known as Okanagan Specialty Fruits is now pushing for their new genetically modified apples to hit the market. The company recently submitted an application to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to launch their initiative to get the apples into your local grocery market and reap ‘improved industry sales’, but they made sure that the data was not available to the public.         Now, after providing virtually no information to the citizens of Canada and submitting only two pages of information on the product actually written by the company, Okanagan Specialty Fruits is now set on a United States release. On July 9th, the USDA posted the corporation’s request for approval on their website for the genetically modified ‘non-browning’ apples, giving the public 60 days to comment before ultimately making a decision.   The move has outraged many watchdog organizations, who have continued to highlight the fact that the initial submission to the Canadian government was ‘embarrassing’ in its utter lack of real information. Speaking on behalf of the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network, activist and biotech researcher Lucy Sharratt stated:   “The CFIA should be deeply embarrassed for wasting Canadian’s time on a false invitation to comment on the GM apple… the CFIA public comment period was always a sham because it was based on no data but this farce is now completely exposed.”               My link

From: On Compassion

The value of compassion cannot be over-emphasized. Anyone can criticize. It takes a true believer to be compassionate. No greater burden can be borne by an individual than to know no one cares or understands. Arthur H. Stainback     To work in the world lovingly means that we are defining what we will be for, rather than reacting to what we are against. Christina Baldwin     Colossians 3:12-13 You are the people of God; he loved you and chose you for his own. So then, you must clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Be tolerant with one another and forgive one another whenever any of you has a complaint against someone else. You must forgive one another just as the Lord has forgiven you.   Source: On Compassion

From: Forget Your Bedtime Stories, These Trolls Are Real

As many of you might know, the legalization front has many obstacles. Several large industries have a lot to lose if Cannabis and Hemp were legalized. The most known are: The oil industry, alcohol, tobacco, private prisons, defense contractors, and the auto industry.   There are others, but the 6 listed above, are in my opinion, the biggest road blocks. They do have limits however.   Industrial Hemp can be used for food, clothing, and fuel. This causes a couple of issues for big corporations. If Hemp were legalized, I truly believe we would see another “Industrial Revolution” of sorts. With cheap fuel, a source for making paper and clothes, and food, we could free ourselves from dependence on the world and eliminate this global economic network that has a tendency to effect all if even one nation shudders. Jobs could come back to America and we could rebuild before its too late. All of this together would stimulate the economy and inspire innovation, once again. Here are a few conflicts of interest:   1. Hemp makes for a cheaper and more reliable source of fuel than corn and fossil fuels. It is 100% renewable. With the world almost completely dependent on oil, there is an infinite amount of money to be made.   2. Government subsidies for corn, since 1995, is astonishing. $51 billion. This money is in place to encourage more farmers to grow corn. The corn is used for feed on farms, ethanol, and high fructose corn syrup, which happens to be a health hazard for humans. The corn subsidy would fall to the wayside if hemp were legalized. The farmers can adapt, corporations are a bit different.   3. Used as a fuel source, we would be in control of our fuel supply. American citizens could even grow Hemp to help feed the demand for fuel. The automotive industry will fight hemp until the end. Using ethanol instead of gasoline, would require a massive amount of vehicles to be converted to run on ethanol. From a cost effective standpoint, the auto industry sees more money in fossil fuels, ignoring the impending collapse of oil and the destruction it will bring to the entire world. Financial collapse. If we can't power our cities or cars, or communications, we face financial collapse. If you don't believe this, just think about how much oil costs have risen in the last 10 years. Prices have more than tripled or even quadrupled within the U.S. over the last decade. All I have to say is, supply and demand. Since the oil companies stand to lose most, if not all their business if industrial hemp, they will fight it with infinite amounts of money.   4. Defense contractors. Their money comes from war, and in recent decades, the U.S. Has gone to war primarily under the guise of peace keeping efforts and terrorism, but its true purpose is finding the oil. If Hemp is used in place of oil, defense contractors would have less reason to profit. No oil, no war, no defense contractors.   When it comes to Marijuana legalization, there are several parties who stand to lose a large stake in the market.   1. For profit prisons. These guys are raking in the money with the aid of prohibition. This unjust ban on a PLANT has put people in jail for the wrong reasons. To be arrested for denying the agenda of big corporations is a scary idea. Yet it is legal to be arrested under false pretenses apparently. Law enforcement and the government are just trying to "protect" the people from the dangers of marijuana use. Aren't we past this? The U.S. has more citizens locked up than China, a country with a population 4 times larger than the United States.   2. Alcohol. Right now, alcohol is a booming industry. Super bowl ads, beer commercials selling sex and billboards everywhere seem to say, drink up! Yet, with over 100,000 deaths per year in the U.S., due to alcohol, we are encouraged to take a sip, instead of a hit. Marijuana has been given a bad name by alcohol and most other industries at risk of being snubbed out by the plant. Alcohol is one of the largest public endorsers of prohibition. Kind of ironic huh?   3. Tobacco. Another supporter of the prohibition, these guys are some of the most corrupt out there. Manufacturing a product that is widely known to cause cancer and death to an astounding number of people each year, but preaching the evils of Cannabis. Hypocritical to say the least.   4. One of the most vocal opponents, is the pharmaceutical industry. Cannabis can cure or reduce symptoms of many diseases and at a fraction of the cost. This, as expected, scares the pill pushers. If you can grow your own medicine, why would you pay someone for an overpriced bottle of pills? You wouldn't. Not to mention, most drugs accepted by the FDA are quite harmful, whereas Marijuana is harmless. Even if smoked, the plant is harmless. As we all know, the greatest side effect of Marijuana is its cancer fighting properties. So, you can see why big pharma is frightened of nature.   So much money is spent on the “War on Drugs”, AKA the “War on the People”, and WE are the ones paying for it all! When South American nations stand up and tell the United States to change its drug policy, there is an issue. No country should have to ask another to change its policies, because of the violence caused by a policy.   The legalization movement is slow and scattered. We need to organize and form strategies. Boycotts are the quickest way to get the attention of big businesses. They need your money, if you aren't giving it; a different course of action is needed.   What can you do to help? Carpool, ride a bike, buy a moped or hybrid, eat organic foods that are labeled as being GMO free, don't buy a NEW car, conserve electricity, don't invest in big businesses, support local farmers who do not use growth hormones or pesticides, avoid anything with corn syrup(since it has been proven to have negative effects on the human brain), and spread the word to friends and family. Understanding is the first step toward freedom.   Every action, within a movement, is important, no matter how small the contribution. Remember, big money equals big influence, but we are the source of money, therefore, we hold the power.     Yearly tobacco related deaths in the U.S. can be found here: http://www.cdc.gov/c...ons/AAG/osh.htm   Yearly alcohol related deaths in the U.S. can be found here: http://www.msnbc.msn...r/#.T7qM9xSYNok   Yearly pharmaceutical deaths in the U.S. can be found here: http://www.cdc.gov/m...ml/mm6101a3.htm   Lives lost in the Iraq war for oil can be found here: http://apps.washingt...ational/fallen/     Just for fun, here is a link to an article about Cannabis protecting you from radiation: http://www.naturalne..._radiation.html   Source: Forget Your Bedtime Stories, These Trolls Are Real

From: Nancy Pelosi - A Voice For Mmj Persecution By Feds

Nancy has stood up and messaged the Pres....   Finally, a voice for patients in Congress beside Ron Paul..     http://www.huffingto..._n_1474854.html   Her message....   Access to medicinal marijuana for individuals who are ill or enduring difficult and painful therapies is both a medical and a states' rights issue. Sixteen states, including our home state of California, and the District of Columbia have adopted medicinal marijuana laws -- most by a vote of the people. I have strong concerns about the recent actions by the federal government that threaten the safe access of medicinal marijuana to alleviate the suffering of patients in California, and undermine a policy that has been in place under which the federal government did not pursue individuals whose actions complied with state laws providing for medicinal marijuana.   Proven medicinal uses of marijuana include improving the quality of life for patients with cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, and other severe medical conditions.   I am pleased to join organizations that support legal access to medicinal marijuana, including the American Nurses Association, the Lymphoma Foundation of America, and the AIDS Action Council.       Source: Nancy Pelosi - A Voice For Mmj Persecution By Feds

From: Medical Marijuana Becomes Key Issue In Ore. Race

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Of the thousands of laws that Oregon's attorney general enforces or interprets, the one allowing medical marijuana has lit up the campaign for that office more than any other.   In a Democratic primary where the candidates agree on many things, their differences over marijuana stand out. It's anyone's guess whether the pot vote will be enough to tip the scales. But no Republicans are seeking the job, so Democrats alone will choose the state's top lawyer the May 15 primary.   Former federal prosecutor Dwight Holton has called Oregon's marijuana law a "train wreck," and he was the U.S. Attorney for Oregon when federal agents raided marijuana farms that were legal under state law.   His rival, retired Court of Appeals judge Ellen Rosenblum, has staked out a mellower view, saying she'll make marijuana enforcement a low priority.   She's hammered Holton over the issue with the help of a political action committee that wants to legalize the drug.   "Mr. Holton is out of step with his own party on this issue," said Bob Wolfe, director of Citizens for Sensible Law Enforcement. "He's trying to climb the career ladder on the backs of medical marijuana patients, and I don't find that acceptable."         More       This post has been promoted to an article   Source: Medical Marijuana Becomes Key Issue In Ore. Ron Paul's Texas Straight Talk 4/23/12: Oppose The Internet Privacy-Destroying Bill Cispa

Eddiekirk, CISPA would obliterate any semblance of online privacy.   And it's up for a vote this week.   We need to slam Congress's phone lines to encourage lawmakers to vote no.   Please click here to find your lawmaker's phone number and place a call today.   CISPA would allow corporations to track and share all variety of information about Americans.   It would demolish existing barriers between the government and the private sector -- and between government agencies -- that restrict data sharing without cause, effectively allowing information about Americans' use of the Internet to slosh back and forth uninhibited.   It would provide the military and security agencies with broad new powers to track Americans' online activity.   We need members of Congress to oppose the legislation when it comes up for a vote later this week.   Please click here for a call script and to find your lawmaker's phone number -- we need as many calls as possible right away.   Thanks for keeping up the fight.   -Demand Progress   <img> Paid for by Demand Progress (DemandProgress.org) and not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee.
